The Formula for Endless Creative

Estimated reading time: 4 minutes, 50 seconds.

Welcome to Nice Ads, everyone; this week is a little different. All the ads I’ve picked have one thing in common—they’ve all been made using archive footage. Why? Well, it’s to celebrate the launch of our new service at Fraggell called Archive Mashups (More on that later).

But in this week’s issue, you’ll learn a few key things

  • How to use archive footage to make endless ads

  • The many different styles of ads that are possible with mashups

  • The tool we use at Fraggell to make it all happen

So, let’s get going

Nailboo

This ad was created as part of our new service offering at Fraggell called Archive Mashups; we took a load of footage Nailboo had inside their backlog, wrote a script and used AI to create a voice-over and made this. Pretty cool, right?

It’s nothing new; the industry has been making ads like this for ages. However, writing a converting script, sourcing footage and editing it all together is often time-consuming and still requires skill. But, the results can be well worth it. We’ve been CPA around 20% lower than target with ads like this in the past.

The best part is that this is accessible to almost everyone, whether by hiring us 😉 or doing it yourself. All you need is RAW clips from your past ads and some basic editing and copywriting skills.

Data also led this video we did for Nailboo; we knew what hooks worked from previous ads and had a history of making winning scripts for them. So, everything else fell into place.

If mashups seem like something you’d be interested in learning more about, feel free to apply for the programme here. We’re beta testing this right now with select brands, so jump in today to lock in a cheap rate.

TLDR;

  • Use raw clips to make a higher volume of ads for free

  • Our archive mashup service can do it for you

Overload

I spotted this ad last weekend, and after watching it, I knew right away that it had been made using the same mashup methods we use at Fraggell.

But as you can tell, this one is a little different; it’s almost framed as a founder ad—telling the story of creating the brand but with an AI voiceover we hear a lot on TikTok. But at its base, it’s using archive footage to tell the story and visualise the script.

There are many possibilities for using past footage to make new ads - From USP and benefit-driven ads like the Nailboo example we made or this founder-style creative.

RAW video is the most valuable asset any brand can start to accumulate. It opens the doors to so many possibilities and easy wins for your brand that you’d be silly not to make it a core part of your marketing efforts.

Also, can we take a moment to appreciate how good that hook is? What a simple and effective idea - Throw your product out of a window to someone at the bottom; I’m going to be stealing that 👀

TLDR;

  • There are so many different types of ads you can make with archive video

  • RAW video is the most valuable asset a brand can have

Aloha

Here’s another creative we made as part of our mashup programme for a long-standing client of ours, Aloha. The story is the same as before: we used all archive footage to cut together this new creative. The great thing about Aloha is that we shot almost all the footage within their archive, meaning we can get into the weeds and make what we know will convert with the footage we shot in our studio.

This was the winner out of the set we made for them last month. It gave them a solid below-target CPA with an excellent high hook rate.

If you’ve worked with agencies or freelance creators in the past, get the raw footage from them if you haven’t already. Build that archive of footage and make endless creative.

To help put all these creatives together, we’ve been using a tool called Recharm. They’ve made a platform that lets you efficiently organise all your footage. Their AI even cuts it up into smaller clips and transcribes everything so you can search words and phrases to find just what you need. This has been a real-time saver for our editors when putting these videos together.

TLDR;

  • Working with a creative agency over a long period of time can help you build a massive archive of ads

  • Recharm helps you sort it all out into a manageable system.
