Is this the best video format of the year?

Estimated reading time: 4 minutes, 40 seconds.

Happy Monday everyone! The lead-up to Black Friday is here, and Jaguar has a new logo; it’s all happening.

So to help calm you down from all the excitement - Let’s look at some ad creative together, this week we’re talking about;

  • How to make ads people WANT to watch

  • An easy static creative to make this week

  • One of the best-performing video formats this year

So let’s get down to it.

Kolkata Chai

For the past few months, we’ve been working with one of the most popular Chai brands in the US, and in our first month, we managed to find this winner. So I wanted to breakdown why it’s a winner. It’s currently one of their top performers in the account, with one of the highest hook rates and a great CPA.

The main reason, I believe, is that we are giving people a reason to watch instead of just making a 30-second video about how great Kolkata Chai is. Instead, we’re talking someone through the process of making the product while also talking about why this is the best Chai you can get.

Think back to the last ad you actually watched; why did you watch it? The possibility is pretty high that you watched it because it wasn’t just a boring ad read. It was something a little different. And that’s what separates a good ad from one made in a hurry.

I also think the nature of the hook helped a lot - People are confused to what’s being poured into the cup and why it looks like it does. So it makes people stop and watch.

This is one of over 500 ads we’ve made last month. If you want to work with us, we currently have spaces open for Q1, and I’d love to chat and see how we can find you some winners. Click here to apply to work with us.

TLDR:

  • Make ads people WANT to watch

  • Stop making ads that are just saying how good your product is

I’ve done it. I’ve found a way to ensure your ad consistently gets in front of the right people. Ready for the secret weapon?

Great creative + Triple Whale’s Sonar. Let me show you how

The TLDR is more data = Better targeting.

That’s where Sonar helps. It’s integrated into Meta’s CAPI and shares its first-party data. This fills in gaps in the customer journey and improves data quality. This means more data, so… better targeting!

I’ve lost count of the number of brands I’ve spoken to that say that a lack of good data holds them back from scaling.

Sonar solves that issue.

Pair it with great creative that speaks to the customer and you’ll take over. Brands see a + 17% Average increase in ROAS within the first 30 data of implementing Sonar for Meta. Here’s a link here for you to try out Sonar for yourself and see how it could help you.

Magic Molecule

I’m sure we all know how popular the Post-it note creative is. Take your product, write on a Post-it note, place it beside your product and take a photo. Done. So when I saw this static I thought it might be worth sharing because I think I like it more than the post-it note ad. Colour paper, with bold eye-catching writing, taped to the wall. I know it’s similar, but I think it stands out more, especially with the number of Post-it Note ads that are currently being run.

It is a nice, simple, easy creative to make whenever you have a couple of minutes to spare. All you need is some paper, tape, and your product. Most people overthink their creative ideas, so it might be a nice challenge for you to do something like this during the week.

TLDR:

  • Simple statics always win

  • If one format is working, try something similar and see the results

Last week, I hosted a webinar with Supliful; I broke down all my methods for creating the perfect creative strategy for your brand. Well, the recording has just gone up on their YouTube channel. You can watch it here and access the deck I reviewed during the call here.

Want a creative format that is killing it right now? Write some text. Centre it within the video in front of some relevant b-roll footage showing your product being used in everyday life. That is what’s working REALLY well on both organic and paid.

And I’m not the only one saying it - My friend Lauren tweeted the same thing last week.

I’m not 100% sure what the reasoning behind why these are performing so well, but we don’t need to understand everything to know it’s working.

But if I had to put it down to something, it would be the fact that people consume so much media every day that something simple like this cuts through the noise and feels real and easy to consume. But that’s just my opinion. Plus the fact this example ad has been live for over 100 days tells us a lot.

TLDR:

  • Formats like this are an easy win for most brands

  • Make sure you pick the right footage that shows your product in the best light

And that’s it! Another Nice Ads done! Thank’s for reading as always - This week I uploaded two YouTube videos - In the first one I breakdown my top 10 hooks for your creative. And in the second one I share the tool me and the team use to spy on brands ads. Give them both a watch and subscribe for more!

I’ll see you next week
