Monday, it's a new week, and it's time for another three ads. If you're new here, I break down the creative strategy behind my three favourite creatives this week and show you how you can replicate their success. This week, we're going to be learning.

  • Why you need to stop taking yourself so seriously in your ads

  • Why the product demo is the secret to converting ads

  • How you can use curiosity in your static ads to drive the click

Q4 is fast approaching, which means that if you are looking for an ad creative partner to help you succeed this year, now might be the time to get in touch with me and my agency. You can click here to book a call

Protein UK

This is an ad we made a while ago for a protein business, built around nostalgia because the generation we're targeting remembers making their schoolwork in Word Art. This nostalgia trick does two things:

  1. Helps target the creative to the right generation that actually remembers this.

  2. Helps the ad creative take itself less seriously, meaning that it feels less like an ad.

If you're a brand that's happy to lean into the meme, it opens up a whole heap of creative opportunities to make ads that feel more approachable. I think a lot of the time, brands are too scared to do this because they think one off-brand ad is going to ruin all the work they've done to make themselves feel premium. Realistically, ads last so little time that it's pointless to spend weeks on one creative to make it as on-brand as you can.

I've managed over 300 million in ad spend, and I can tell you right now the brands that actually scale are the ones that aren't afraid to chase performance and then build a brand.

Nipcomfort

This is the type of UGC you should be making if your product has a clear before-and-after, because the issue with most of these products is that people feel the ads they watch are fake. There are a tonne of cuts and fancy music, but if you can show your product in use, live in front of people's eyes, there is nothing stopping them from purchasing.

This raw-style UGC product demo works wonders because women see a problem they relate to and, in a couple of seconds, see the solution.

And the best part is, they even use the before-and-after as a hook, so that visual alone is enough to target the creative and show how useful the problem is. I bet there are millions of women who would see this ad and buy the product just from the demo alone.

Making ads like this isn't even difficult. You just need a good creator who has the problem, and then give them your product and tell them to film themselves using it. That's it. That's how simple this is. Stop trying to complicate it.

TLDR:

  • You are making things harder for yourself most of the time when it comes to ad creative

TORRAS

This is a static ad we made for a popular phone case brand, and the idea came after our creative strategist used the product themselves.

What we wanted to do was build some curiosity. We show the phone case front and centre, and then, with copy, we say, "This is the case that everyone keeps on asking you about, but why? Why is everyone asking me about my phone case?" We hope that people ask themselves that, then click the ad, and realise how the phone case works.

I think a lot of the time people forget that ad creative's sole job is to get people to click away from the platform. If you've done that, your ad creative is successful. Using psychological tools like curiosity can be incredibly powerful to drive that click, particularly at the bottom of the funnel where statics normally are

TLDR:

  • Use the tools in your creative strategy toolbox to help drive the click

That's all for this week's ads. Be sure to forward this to someone if you enjoyed it, and you can also watch my newest YouTube video where I reveal my Claude skill that helps me write killer native static ads.

Until next time, I'll see you soon
