Welcome back to a new edition of Nice Ads. This week we're going to be talking about

  • High-production product videos that actually convert

  • The art of the mistake.

  • Why you need to start winning awards

You'd think it'd be pretty hard to advertise something like a Facebook case on Meta, but when you focus on what people actually care about, it's shocking how easy it can be. This studio creative is one we made for a relatively new client in our first batch of ads, and it is currently performing really well.

The goal of this studio was to create a really stylised, clean-looking set that matched the colours and vibe of the cases themselves, and then to simply showcase each phone case and its main features, calling out those USPs with on-screen text.

When I reviewed this before it went to the client, I honestly didn't expect it to do as well as it has done. I think, because of the type of customer this ad is going to, they appreciate nice-looking videos, so this probably fits really well into their Instagram feed.

The funny thing is, a lot of the set dressing for this was just kids' toys, but when they're in the right place, it's shocking how different they can look.

Binge Worthy Snacks

Not gonna lie, this is a bit of a weird product. Never thought I'd be writing about meat crisps, but D2C is one strange industry.

The reason I wanted to pick up on this ad is that when people are concepting, they often think too linearly about ad creatives and think that they need to do a certain thing to be seen as an ad. With how popular affiliate marketing has become on platforms like TikTok Shop, a lot of the time all you need to do is include your product in the video, and I hope the algorithm sends it to the right people.

Although this ad focuses on some of the product's benefits, it still looks relatively organic. It's pretty much all in one take. It looks pretty crappy. She fumbles opening the packet, but all of that adds up to make a really nice direct response video.

The bag fumbling is actually quite clever, since we've been including it in some concepts recently. We tell the creators that it's fine if they mess up, or even direct them to mess something up to make the video look more organic, because nobody's perfect. Particularly when people are on camera, they often overthink what they're doing and mess it up. Scripting those fumbles inside your ads is a great way to make them look a bit more organic.

TLDR:

  • The best ads are the ones that you take a lot of time on

This next creative is less about the ad itself and more about the social proof within it. Winning awards might seem irrelevant to your paid media, but including a Good Housekeeping win can have a huge impact on your conversions. Even if people don't know the company that gave you the award, simply claiming you are a winner of a relevant award is often enough product and social proof to drive conversions.

That's why I'd like this. That is literally just the product. It doesn't need any more headlines. Just having the Good Housekeeping winner is enough to remind someone towards the bottom of the funnel to convert.

Particularly if you add this to maybe a carousel that shows your other flavours or SKUs, you're definitely on your way to a fairly high-converting ad.

TLDR:

  • Winning awards is great for your paid media
