Let's talk about this Yapper ad that we recently made for a fragrance brand that's showing some real promise in the ad account. Let me explain what makes a good Yapper ad and why we're seeing so much success with them.

A lot of the success comes down to a great creator. If you have someone who can read a script very naturally on camera, then the rest is relatively easy. What I often see is people rush the casting, and the whole video just falls apart. Take your time on this because it will pay off.

Another little tip is to instruct your creator to make mistakes, or, if they do, don't cut and try again. If you think about how most of us make content, the average person isn't experienced with being on camera, so they might take a couple of seconds to find something or might stumble over their words. Whatever that is, including those mistakes within your Yapper ads makes them feel more real.

For example, in the hook of this video, when she goes to grab the perfume, she doesn't instantly reach for it as if she knows exactly where it is. We have a couple of beats where she's rummaging in her bag. This is the kind of stuff that makes it feel real. Along with that, if you can build the whole thing around some kind of story. For example, in this, she was a bit of a gamer, and she wanted to stand out with how she smelled. If you can build some kind of world around your Yapper, you are way more likely to have people watch the whole thing, even though it's an ad.

If you want great UGC ads like the above, then please do think about getting in touch because we have a little bit of capacity moving into Q4, and we'd love to work with you. Apply to work with us here.

While we're on the topic of Yappers, let's talk about another lofi-style creative that is killing it right now: faceless UGC. All you need to do is scroll through your TikTok feed, and the number of TikTok Shop videos that you will see that take this form is unreal. Whether it's someone holding the product and describing why you should buy it, or it's like this one where they're demonstrating something with things written on a whiteboard, it's such an incredibly popular format because it's so easy to make.

Particularly if you're a founder and you're just starting out and don't feel super comfortable on camera, you can just make one of these. All you need to do is speak, and if you really don't want to do that, then you could potentially use AI to generate the voiceover.

The beauty of these ads is that if you take your time with the concept and the script, they will absolutely kill it. Because they're faceless, you can make a tonne of these at volume yourself, or your team can. It's such an easy way to make creatives.

If I were you, if you're working with a UGC creator on other content, perhaps make this a variation. Get them to just film a faceless video reading the script that you've written for them. Happy days

I recently had a call with this brand, and when I was looking through their ad library, although I've personally been served their ads quite a lot, I've never actually taken the time to look through all the ads they have live. One thing that was very clear was that they know their customer. I think a lot of people, when I say this, think knowing your customer is doing a bit of research on them, but what it actually means is understanding them on a deeper level, understanding the content that is filling their feed, and making content to mirror that.

I'm in the photography and videography world, and so a lot of my Instagram Reels look exactly like this ad. They're high-quality creative pieces that look like someone took time to craft and edit them, and the brand knows that. That is exactly why they've made their ads to look like that.

This is why, when brands ask me, "What type of ad should I be making?" I can never give them a definitive answer straight away without doing proper research, because every single customer base is different. Some want lo-fi content that you can see on TikTok; others want content like this.

Don't let trends or suggestions from Twitter guide you into the ads that you should be making. Let your customer do that. I actually saw a great suggestion the other day: set up a fake Instagram profile, mirror the feed you expect your customer to have, and use it as a research tool. Such an easy and free way to get endless creative ideas

TLDR:

  • Don't just copy what everyone else does. Follow your customer

That's all for this week's niceouts. Appreciate you taking the time to read. I've posted a new YouTube video that's actually a little bit different to what I usually do, so it might be worth a watch.
